25,306

The badge in the upper right corner hasn't updated as of this post, but I'm at 25,306 words. And that's NaNoWriMo 2006 for me. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't hit 50,000, but I did make it halfway there. Not too shabby, since the most I've ever written was about 3500 words. I might have produced more, but I gave up Saturdays to take an art class and by Sunday I was too damn lazy to want to do anything.

I think I'm going to do this again next year. Only next year, I'm going all the way and breaking the 50,000 word mark. Right now though, I'm stepping slowly away from the keyboard and am going to take a couple days to do some other things that I've been putting off for a month. But after that, I'm sitting right back down to finish the novel I started this year. I'm sure it's not bestseller material, but I'm having fun... why stop now?

And once it's finally done I'm going to tear out handfuls of my hair, wander through the wilderness for a couple of months, and come back to it for editing. I'm going all the way with this one!

Extended entry has an excerpt - nothing spectacular, but a little something...

Hell needed a new weapon in the war against Heaven and Marcus became the first of a new breed of demon, created to walk the earth in human form and subvert the efforts of God while maintaining a low profile. He was the last of the new breed after failing miserably in his assigned duties, instead choosing to spend his time back on earth drinking and womanizing. Hell sighed perceptibly and the resulting explosion of Vesuvius destroyed the city of Pompeii.

Marcus was permanently exiled to earth and cursed to live among the inferior humans he had been charged with destroying. He took his punishment like a man and spent several centuries engaged in more drinking and womanizing.
