I'm trying to love her, but she keeps breaking my heart. Everything I try to make her happy just gets rejected and I don't know how much of the little bitch I can stand anymore.
Three times now, THREE TIMES, I've tried to find the solution and nothing works. I just don't know what to do anymore.
I love my PowerBook, but trying to find a RAM upgrade for her that doesn't hard-lock the machine or cause a kernel panic seems impossible. I'm trying to find non-Apple memory because I don't feel like paying those terrorists in Cupertino $300 for one gig of RAM! But so far, the first module I tried was good, but not compatible so I returned it. The second one was legitimately bad so I returned it too. Too bad it's replacement isn't compatible either. I have to RMA that one and get my money back. And then I'll move on to my fourth and final attempt. If it doesn't work, I'm throwing in the towel.
I love my PowerBook, but there's only so much shit I'm willing to go through for her.
Oh... I'm willing to bet at least two of you thought I was talking about something else.
Assholes.

I know how you feel about wasted time. My Powerbook G4 was repaired once, though I was sent back another defective motherboard. A relationship with Apple is often a Love-Hate relationship, depending on the particular product you get.
It is an unfortunate circumstance to own a defective Powerbook G4. There are a couple of thousand people who are aware of the fact they are affected. However, there are potentially several thousand Powerbook G4 owners who are unaware.
Here is a link to get you started on the road to understanding the Powerbook G4 lower memory slot defect:

Good luck.

Thanks Artie.
I've been aware of the lower memory slot issue since Apple announced the REP for it... believe me, when the first module started freezing my machine I checked my serial right away. I have the 15.2" Dual-Layer machine Apple released in October of '05, so according to Apple, my machine isn't a part of the REP.
Of course, that doesn't mean much since Apple is notorious for dragging their feet when it comes to admitting to a defect in their machines and launching a REP.
Hopefully, my next RAM purchase will work.
Thanks for the info link and thanks for stopping by!

Yes.. Mine was exact same aluminum model with dual layer drive. Not within serial number range. Apple fixed it anyway. Take it too an Apple store, if possible and insist that you have the memory defect. Apple replaced my motherboard with one that had another form of the memory slot problem. Now, instead of the machine not booting, it mis-reports the amount of memory, *some days*. And works fine other days.

Hmmm... very interesting.
I've been suspecting that the machine actually suffers from the logic board issue so it's good (in a way) to hear that someone else experienced the same thing.
Thanks again.

Are you fucking kidding? Get a fucking life!!!
(Ed. Note - Perhapsably if you had a life and could make a relationship work, you wouldn't have come here through your search for 'wasted years on a relationship'. I'm sure your boyfriend/husband feels the same way. Just hang your head in shame and go fuckin' kill yourself already.)
